Always wondered what the key to good threesomes is?
We interviewed erotic film director Charis Uster about the importance of representing queersomes in porn.
How did you get your start in directing movies and erotic films?
After I finished my degree in political science at the University of Potsdam, I didn’t feel like pursuing a master’s degree in the same field.
As much as I loved studying, I think I am a much more hands-on person than a theoretical thinker.
I was missing a practical and especially a creative outlet in my work.
Film happens to be the perfect intersection of social studies and the arts for me.

I started working for Erika Lust.
So in my free time, I began to go on as many sets as possible, trying to learn as much as I could.
I got lucky and got accepted into a film program at a film school in Barcelona.
There I could advance my practices further.
Now, two years later Erika and her team gave me the chance to direct a film for them because they liked the script I submitted.

Today your directorial debut is being released on Erika Lust’s alt-porn platform xconfessions.com.
Tell us a bit about your film “Milkshake” and its take on threesomes.
Milkshake is an erotic fiction fantasy with 70s films aesthetics.
A timeless narrative in which a simple trip to the diner turns out to be something else entirely.
The sex scene is a queer take on “MMF” threesomes.
Milkshake features performers Nuire Noir, Bishop Black, Catalina d’Aragó and Tula Vida who delivered great acting performances!
What does “a queer take on MMF threesomes” mean exactly?
I was extremely frustrated by the usual portrayal of threesomes, especially MMF threesomes, in porn.
The heteronormative gaze on threesomes takes out the magic for me entirely.
I don’t want to have a threesome in which two out of the three people involved don’t want to touch each other.
Where is the fun in that?

I wanted to shoot a threesome scene that shows pleasure and respect between all parties involved.
It really bothers me when I see an inherently queer sexual fantasy being corrupted by heteronormativity.
So what would you say is the secret to good threesomes?
Well, I can only speak for myself, but I would say if you want to have a threesome, you need to have it with people who actually enjoy sharing intimacy with each other and are not strictly attracted to a specific gender to a point where they feel uncomfortable touching a same-sex or queer person.
Look at it this way, if you would have sex with just one other person, and either you or that person wouldn’t enjoy themselves then it would not be a good experience for either of you, right?
The same goes for threesomes.
What was your inspiration for Milkshake?
Well, I am a huge Kelis fan. I love her song Milkshake and the music video to it.
I always found it super hot, empowering and fun which is what I look for in adult entertainment as well.
So the idea for Milkshake came to me while I was listening to that song and I decided to pay tribute to it.

What was your favorite moment on set?
Probably when we started shooting the sex scene and Bishop, Noir and Cata started using the cakes, chocolate sauce and whipped cream.
There was a lot of laughter and funny moments and it was just beautifully messy.
I was very nervous about directing the sex scene, as it was my first time being fully in charge of one.
But all the performers were super professional and gave me a lot of tips afterwards.
I’m glad they trusted me and that we could create a safe environment for everyone.
Are you planning to shoot another erotic film soon?
yes I am!
I don’t want to give away what it’s going to be about, but be prepared to see another sexual fantasy de-heteronormatised!
