Why BERLINABLE is back, and what we learned from a man who spent 30 years in prison.
While the world got louder, we got quieter. BERLINABLE has been silent for quite a while now.
But as the times are getting harder, we paused for a while to make plans. Meanwhile, behind the scenes, we’ve been expanding our network of allies, deepening our understanding, and preparing for what comes next.
For those new to BERLINABLE: we’re an independent Berlin publisher that has always dared to publish what others wouldn’t. However, we’ve learned that being independent without big industry investors means a 24/7 uphill battle against the bigotry of tech giants.
But now, we have a brand new strategy. No, we will not compromise our values.
We won’t become mainstream. Our strategy is triggering swarm intelligence and boosting our community.

In times of culture wars and conservative backlash, Berlin publisher , BERLINABLE, is choosing a different path.
We’re the ambassadors of freedom. We advocate for an open society that sees sex not as a battleground, but as a learning field.
We spread wisdom and share experiences about our most intimate areas.
This isn’t about being right. It’s about being real, taking the fear out of being different, fighting with fun, and spreading the vibes of a positive and free life.
We’re back in the light because the world needs bridges, not battles. Moreover, we’ve spent this time learning how to build them stronger.
Here’s what’s coming:

Turning our readers into co-creators, spreading ideas organically through human connections rather than paid ads
We’re launching this new phase because we believe in building a freer, more understanding society – one conversation at a time.
The Story That Reminds Us Why We Do This

We want to end with good news – and the reason why we keep doing BERLINABLE:
Five years ago, a friend sent us an erotic story. Not unusual for us. However, this one was different. It was written by Donnie McKinley, a man serving life without parole in California, sentenced at 18 for being present when a friend took a life during a gang fight.
Through his words, we saw his soul. We knew: this isn’t a killer. This is a human being who has spent nearly 30 years in prison. A poor boy born into a dysfunctional society shaped by poverty, gangs, and systemic oppression, who had become a thoughtful man through decades of self-reflection and growth.
We believed in the impossible. For five years, we talked with Donnie every week. We supported his clemency petition. We refused to accept that a person should die slowly in prison for being caught in America’s racist machinery as a teenager.
But here’s what we learned from him:
Through Donnie’s eyes, we understood social inequality on a deeper level. He showed us how systems of power really work – and who they’re designed to crush. In addition, he taught us about the injustices embedded in our society that we, as Europeans, couldn’t see clearly before.
Most importantly, he opened our eyes to how sexuality is used as a tool of social control. How pleasure is weaponized. How intimate expression becomes political resistance. Read Donnie’s own words about this here.
Here’s the good news: One year ago, Donnie walked free.
This is what happens when we choose understanding over judgment, when we see humans instead of categories, and when we build bridges instead of walls.
Everything is possible when we connect authentically. This is why Berlin publisher BERLINABLE exists.
This is why we’re back.

PS: We never published Donnie’s erotic stories, only his articles and essays. At the time, we feared someone could use any sexual content against him because anything related to sex often serves as an excuse for punishment, especially in a conservative society. Therefore, we chose to protect Donnie over creating content. The human before the sensation.
Now that he’s free, we’ll finally publish his very first story in the coming weeks.
